Dr. Renea holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice, dual master degrees, a Master of Education in Community Mental Health Counseling and a Master of Science in Nursing. She also holds dual Bachelor of Science degrees, one in Nursing and one in Psychology, and an Associate of Science degree in Marketing. Dr. Renea is a fully licensed Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Practitioner with independent prescriptive authority (APRN-Rx) in Hawaii, Washington state, Florida and Oregon. She is Board Certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC). She consistently strives for excellence in patient care and believes in life-long learning.
Dr. Renea also completed a post-master’s PMHNP nurse practitioner residency program at Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center where she was one of only two people selected. During her time there, she treated individuals struggling from a wide range of mental and medical illnesses. The experience taught her much what individuals with complex mental and medical conditions experience on a daily basis.
Dr. Renea has experience in a variety of settings including public health, school nursing, psychiatric nursing, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) care and behavior modification, critical care nursing, childhood and adolescent behavioral care, residential care, juvenile corrections, and research.
Specialties: Counseling: Women, divorce, pregnancy loss, children & adolescents, play therapy techniques, crisis counseling, family and single parent counseling, at-risk youth, depression, anxiety, & grief, community mental health and treating the severely mentally ill (SMI).
Nursing: Lifespan psychiatry providing mental health care in various settings (inpatient, outpatient, trauma), critical care (ICU), nutrition, diabetes & holistic wellness, emergency psychiatry.
Teaching: Dr. Renea has taught 100+ courses in higher education. She currently teaches clinical courses within the Graduate School of Nursing at the University of Southern Indiana and various undergraduate psychology courses at Ivy Tech Community College. Past teaching experiences include facilitating undergraduate psychiatric nursing clinical rotations for the School of Nursing at Indiana University & undergraduate communication and sociology courses.
Memberships: Dr. Renea stays abreast of new research by attending conferences, obtaining continuing education, and reading. She is a member of the Neuroscience Education Institute, American Nurses Association, American Psychiatric Nurses Association, Hawaii Psychological Association, and the Hawaii Association of Professional Nurses Hawaii Chapter.
